Bank switching explained

Banks pay cash bonuses to win your current account. Switching is simpler than most people expect.

The switch service

The Current Account Switch Service (CASS) moves your payments, direct debits and balance automatically, usually within seven working days, and redirects anything sent to the old account.

Typical requirements

Bonuses usually require switching in a set number of active direct debits, paying in a minimum amount, and sometimes logging into the app. Always read the offer's specific terms and deadline.

Common questions

Will switching hurt my credit score?
A switch may involve a credit check, but simply moving accounts via CASS is routine and widely done.
Can I switch more than once?
Many people switch repeatedly for bonuses, though some banks exclude previous customers.
